Follow the story behind the Breast Cancer Research Trust and Trelise Cooper’s journey to restore a piece of kiwi history.
The caravan is part of our kiwi history and is an iconic part of the summer holiday. We thought it was time to tip our hats to restoring the kiwi classic as a fundraising vehicle. The first step in our journey was to find a retro body to work with and the search turned up this little beauty kindly donated to us by James Keane from Beachlands, Auckland.
The next step was to convince Steve and the team at Moselle Panel & Paint in Auckland that restoring the caravan was a good idea. Steve has contributed greatly to the Trust over the past three years, so of course he said yes!
With Trelise Cooper, Patron of the Breast Cancer Research Trust, lending her unique talents to this project by designing the exterior and interior was also a natural choice. So our journey of creating the ultimate kiwi caravan classic is underway.
Holiday Parks of NZ spotted the caravan in our monthly e-newsletter and the relationship has prospered since into many of the 300 parks around New Zealand taking up the Breast Cancer Research Trust’s $1000 Challenge fundraising initiative, in order to help find a cure for breast cancer. With each Park aiming to raise at least $1,000, HAPNZ are hoping to reach over $300,000 to assist in the funding of critical research.
